Anti-Bullying Day Events at CSS

Our MCs at last night showing of My Prairie Home. Last night the Chatelech GSA hosted a showing of the new National Film Board documentary, My Praire Home, which chronicles and explores the life and music of Rae Spoon, a transgendered singer/songwriter. The film is an exploration of the challenges of growing up gay on the Prairies. It examines feelings of exclusion, bullying and the tensions of family life. But it's also hopeful and shows how Rea finds safety and meaning through music. The GSA kids raised over $100.00 in donations from supportive community members and groups.

Former Canadian National Ballet dancer, Heidi Riggs, shares her story about struggles with bullying as she started her dance career.  As part of the Anti-Bullying Day a dance troupe from Gibsons presented a powerful message following Heidi's talk. Thank you to all for sharing this important message.

Snowshoeing on Sunday....School on Monday

Well the weather has really being causing havoc for us at SD 46.  I had received incorrect information this morning about today being a Snow Day, but we definitely did have issues with transportation and busing today.

The school bus companies have recommended a pickup 1 1/2 hours early, due to poor road conditions.

I apologize for the confusion.

FYI  the Parent Information Meeting regarding CSS Course Selection will be rescheduled for Thursday evening-- 6:30 pm for (parents of students going into Grade 9 & 10) and 7:30 pm (for parents of students going into Grade 11 or 12).

4:00 am Wakeup Call on Sunday Morning

It was worth getting up at 4:00 am to support the Men's Canadian Olympic Hockey Team-- it was an awesome game with Canada winning a Gold Medal with a 3-0 win over Sweden!

Great job supporting our Canadian Olympic athletes!

Hands on Learning

Our Sechelt Language students were engaged in doing a variety of projects when I stopped by today. They are doing some excellent work, as you can see.

FYI the film, We Were Children, will be held at the Raven Cry Theatre February 15, 2014.  This is a true heartbreaking story of Lyna Hart & Glen Anaquod who were removed from there home at ages of four and six like so many First Nations and Indigenous children in Sechelt and throughout Canada & forced into a system that would impact them and their communities forever.  There will be a Candle Lighting Ceremony at 1:00 pm followed by the Film at 2:00 pm and a Panel Discussion and Q & A at 3:30 pm.

It is recommended for audiences 16 years of age and older.

Action Shots from Foods & Textiles

Students engaged in work in both Foods and Textiles in the above photos.  Indoor Soccer started today, but because I had a meeting I wasn't able to get any pictures.  I understand that it went really well. I hope to stop by and get some pics tomorrow. The Sr. Girls' Basketball Team plays Rockridge at home today-- it should be a tough battle.

Until later.

CSS PAC Approve Kitchen Upgrades

At our PAC Meeting last night there was a proposal to put $5,500 into a kitchen upgrade.  The kitchen, which supports our hot lunch program, needs to be upgraded to keep up with demands.

It is a testament to the work that our PAC does to support our students. Thank you so much PAC!!!!

Full Turn Around Day

The day started with a beautiful sunrise. (West Sechelt )
After a morning meeting I went to the gym and saw the great work being done for the Winter Formal.
The transformation was awesome.  The decorations for the Winter Formal was outstanding.
 The ceiling lights looked great!
The DJ and his screen.

The Winter Formal was well attended and the students had a great time. The dancing looked like it was fun and the food was fantastic!

Thanks to all who volunteered to make this a successful event!
