Be Bear Aware

For your information we had a mother bear and two cubs on the back field today. We just want everyone to be bear aware and please keep your distance and do not get between the mother and cub.

School Startup & PAC Meeting

The 2017-2018 academic year is upon us and the school start-up has gone very well.  Our administrative team (M & M) have been enjoying our new crop of grade 8 students and our Grad class has shown some excellent leadership to start the year.

Our Student Council organized a pep rally/welcome assembly, which was great. Our Terry Fox Run was also very successful. Thank you to Mr. Beckingham and his Leadership class, along with our PE Staff.

We have some of our Grade 8 students participating in an Adolescent Health Survey today. The research is being done in conjunction with UBC and the McCreary Foundation.

We had a good PAC Meeting last night and the turnout was pretty good. Our PAC provides us with some much needed support throughout the year.  The only fundraising that they do is the Hot Lunch Program, which is only running 3 days a week, ay present- (Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday). We have had issues getting enough parent volunteers so we do not have hot lunch on Monday and Friday.

We have up to 500 people signed up for the Chatelech2Go app, which is awesome. Students and parents can use this as another communication tool.

I hope that everyone has had a good start to their autumn. Thanksgiving is just around the corner and then it'll be our Provincial Pro-D Day (Oct. 20th) and then our Halloween Extravaganza.

I trust that parents and guardians will contact the school with any questions or concerns.

We look forward to another outstanding year at Chatelech Secondary School.

All the best,

Mr. H

Congratulations CSS Ski & Snowboard Team

Seven of the ten Chatelech students that raced last Sunday on the Ski and Snowboard long course in Whistler placed in the top ten. In Boys Snowboarding, Levi Pearl came in first place, Gabe Crudele placed second and Will Magnussen secured ninth place. Pearl Deasey won first place in the Girl's Snowboarding category and Evelyn Klassen placed fifth.  In Girls Skiing, Ingrid Bryson placed third and Paige Franken, a grade 8 student new to the team, came in eighth. Malcolm Stoddart had two extremely fast races but hit a gate after he was forced to take a third race due to mechanical difficulties with the timing equipment. Alex Piepjohn was seconds away from the top ten, and Nolan McKenna is steadily climbing the ranks in his first year on the team.

Textile Wizard

I covered Ms. Marsh's Textile 9 class yesterday and one of her students was working on her quilted pillow. I stopped by today and she had completed it. The stitching is well done and the zipper she put in was flawless.  Well done!
